25th Anniversary Jamboree

Ben, Ruth, and Luke,

We need to begin planning Mom and Dad's big party. How about we use that as a good excuse to all hang together? Could the three of you travel up here for a weekend in April so that we could hang out and work together? I'd come home, but my vacation time is all used up because of the London trip and the Marathon. Ben, you could bring Andra, Ruth you could bring Doug, Luke, you can bring the Latino princess Ruth brings back for you from Argentina. We would make reservations, create the invitations, assemble the guest list, call the relatives, get them on board for our gift, ect.... We'll buy a ton of food, feast together, get some golfing and disc golfing in. What do you say?

April 7-9 or 21-23 would work out for me.

so...i had to laugh. John the barber across from our vision office came over and did his normal making faces ,jumping around, and miming a conversation through the office windows . then he popped his head in and congratulated me for wearing the right color shirt today. and quoted the color shirts the staff wears each day to me. After 4 years of working here i still get my days mixed up and wear the red shirt when the rest of staff is wearing purple. so yeah. this was coming from one of the most brilliant and exceptionally hyper of men i know. who traditionally when i say "hi" says " not yet !"
it is now a running joke between all the staff and some of our patients. and apparently the barber. anyways i think its funny. mom and dad are probably debating who's weird sense of humor i got ; )

Hey I hope this is not posting twice. I made it I conquered the Appalachian trail 2,172 miles!!!! Man O day it feels so good. I am alive but dead humbled but proud, Old yet ooooooo so young. My friend said it best it is time for a new adventure. That is what the sign ment to me. I would say more but like the title says it would cheapen it. I cant wait to tell you all about it. Words Will Cheapen

So I did it I finished the Appalachian trail 2,172 miles!!!! York, LB, and I left at 3am in the morning. It was below Freezing and with the wind chill I have no clue how cold it was. We got to tree line at 4:30am and had to stop all three of us got in a little crevice between 2 rocks and got out 2 sleeping bags and huddled together shivering till 6am. So section hiker passed us at 5:30am when it was still dark and we scared the crap out of him. So we got movin and it was had the breaths I took came hard it was so cold me lungs no matter how hard I tried would not fill the air. At 5,000 ft you hit the table land and you think you are close but you still have 1 and a half miles to go. It was like 6:45am and the sun started creeping up you looked down into the valley and all the clouds and fog are slowly starting to fade away into nothing and the glow of the sun becomes stronger and stronger. Then to the left a huge billowing cloud is rolling in. About a half a mile from the top you run into a spring which is trickling but not much because it is froozen over, the ground is covered in frost as well. Then in it was like a explostion went off. We were hiking up the south side and sense Katahdin is the tallest thing around it is what the sun has to come over so we were walking straight into the sun right into it; Katahdin means THE GREATEST MOUNTIAN. You never saw anything more beautiful you could feel it against your face and some how at that same moment the clouds broke to reveal the summit and the sign only one fourth of a mile away. We got up there and it is like nothing you could ever imagine that feeling the awesome pride and the flip it was like one of the most humbling experience at the same time. I am not going to try and explain it anymore because at the title says it would take away. A hike hairball said in the wilderness it is time for a new adventure and that is what that sign was screaming! Ben :-)

Pipers book is ok - I read it, I think it would be good if you were 50 and beginning to plan for retirement or were 18 just graduating high school and had no concept of the fact that our cheif end as humans is to live for God's glory and a way that manifests itself is by engaging in mission here and abroad.

So... the age old question. IS RUTH REALLY GOING TO ITALY ???? Guess what? through trying to plan it a few times and it kaplooting i though about it quite a bit. and realized something over the summer. I have always wanted to go to Italy since i was a little girl. why? hmm. culture, travel, the language, art, architecture,cause i'd be cool, love..or an italian man i could marry, etc... then i realized these are all great things i could get alot of places.(minus italian man,jk) why Italy? then i realized i felt somewhere in the back of my head that by going there i would find myslef and all my answers. independence. love and my choice of a realtionship. my goals and dreams. Life and my present and future would somehow make sense and be revealed. I decided it was in Italy.I thought i was going to find everything there. and after realizing that is what i wanted out of it most i have realized i dont need Italy. would i like to go there still? yes! its facinating! but i dont have this great urgency. i wont mind if its years down the road. I think i founf alot of my answers this summer. So Jed, and Ben...i may not join you if its in the next year 1/2. I decided to study spanish for a month-2 months in argentina. prob jan-feb/march. A life goal to study and learn spanish well. I will start following my heart instead of trying to find it. you know? t

Well. i thought i should officially inform all of you. i am in love with Doug Kauffman. yup. have been for a while. but i didn't want to leave anyone out : ) last weekend rocked.went on a camping retreat with his cell group college- adult age. i had a tent made for 5 people and only had to share it with 1 person. i didn't miss our 4-5 person squeezes. Doug and i had a great time with everyone and eachother. we were able to pray together and talk alot about now and the ominous LATER. we went boating with his bro, sis and dad. tubing skiing. i made an amazing landing after flying like 10 feet in the air on the tube on the river while going super fast. it ripped my arms off. i'm typing with my shoulder blades. right now i am looking at programs to go to argentina for 6-8 weeks. depends on the mulah. ben. after that. we will tango together like nothing else.DANCE!!!! IGOR DANCE!!!! interesting stuff. been swing dancin alot. going to glenn echo bringing the youth with me, i got proposed to by an old guy in mommers diner, tried frog leg, won 1st place in a mile race,tried on maternity pants to buy some for sadie, been to the jail 50 million times, pee'd in the river alot,ran into a car, tons of great things. so over and out. i'll write again.love you all

WEll as may be expected are football team lost 34-0, are first string qaurterback was already out and then are second string QB got injured the first quarter so we were playing with 11 people because thats all we had left if anyone else got hurt we'd have had to forfit.
OHH YEAAHHHH BABY i got my learners permit so jed and ben prepare to drive me because we all know mom wont. i'm trying to pick up some guitar on my own, so far so good.

Ow how things have changed. So hard to explain and It doesn't worry you Dad as far as pickup goes. York and I are going into the last 120 mile stretch the wilderness to Katahdin woooooooohoooooooooooooo we will then hitch back to Monson and go south for the 80 miles we skipped I am feelin good and lovin life. Philip Yancey What is so Amazing About Grace is another book you should all read. Rock on it would be good to hear from you Dad Ruth and LUke on the old Blog. :-) Sweeeeeeeeeet sweeeeetness anywho I am going North and feel like I am going to explode. I sent a box home with Yorks and mines stuff just hang on to it for me. Dad If you could put 20 dollars in my checking account and put it on my tab I would love it as I had to buy alittle more food for the 7 day stretch, and I think my account is going to bounce. Sorry guys I keep pressing enter after I write my title, and I don't get to write anything. Jed if you don't mind how about deleating my 2 mistakes.
I spent today helping Toni get her house ready to put on the market. Her asking price is 295,000, I think she will probably get it. She has always been a good steward of her house.
It will be interesting to see what we will get when we sell.

Jed it was a beautiful day here especially for a football game. Did you enjoy yourself. Silly question I know, it is sports and outside, and free tickets, What else could a could a red blooded american Dearing want.

We took Luke and Sarah to see the Spirit of America at the MCI center last night. Remember going to that? I alway love anything patriotic.

Life is funny Darrel Borquest just stopped by with a leather briefcase he bought when he was in Morroco that needs repairing. They are such a high energy family.

Mom's JV football review

A balmy sept. night greeted Luke's cheering squad, mom dad and Ruth. Under the lights at walkersville HS. mom had a cheerleading flashback, the girls skirts were just like the one I, a former boy's club cheerleader, had, so after showing dad a few of my old moves we settled down on our new stadium seats. Here comes the teams running out. Walkersville had at least 30 players, and Brunswick had exactly 14 players,11 on the field 3 to spare. That's when I started praying. So our players played just about every play ( except when they were hurt and carried off the field or taking away in a ambulance) so Luke got to play special teams, offense and defense. Of course that whole thought freaked me out. How were they going to come out alive. So the game starts,I spent the 1st dozen plays asking Dad where is he? Then I followed him half the time. He's fast and stayed right in the game making some great tackles, and wasn't hurt! Well he could have used a hot tub and massuse after the game but he did walk off on this own power.
Any way back to the game they really suprised me they had a great defensive line when they were out there and they really surprised me with their passing and running game. Even after the starting quarterback was hurt, they moved the ball. Luke was involved in a couple trick plays where the QB handed the ball to him and then he handed it to someone else.
So halftime it was 13 to 0 we were 0 then the next half with 1 min about 50 sec. left we were ahead 14 to 13. by this time we had no extra men left , 2 had sprained ankles one was carried off then aced up and went back out, 2 had dislocated shoulders, one sprained wrist, one threw up. So by the last drive I was in full cheering mode voice getting hoarse and they just couldn't hold them,they went down the field and scored.I was so sad but so proud of the guy's. They played much better then I thought. So the moral of this story is pray for me OK, you should pray for Luke and his team also.

Hey so i figured it out yaaaaaaaa. Anywho I am here in Rangley and will be on the trail in the morning I got the package and am happy to have food. So Jed already wrote it but I feel very strongly that God is calling me to New Orleans for sometime. Please keep that in your prayers as making it happen will be tough. So I just finished reading ( Blue LIke Jazz ) a fantastic book about christianity from a non believers view point worth your time. I will be in Monson, ME. 44464 in 2 weeks and would love for you to write me and or give it to anyone to write I have a feeling the last 100 miles are going to be tough. SO I leave you with this bit from a song, " so let go just let go because beauty lies within the breakdown." Ben :-)

I talked to Ben today, he seems tired, but is truckin on.

He asked me to begin to investigate how he could spend a month down in New Orleans as a volunteer working to rebuild the city, help refugees, ect...

Heritage is partnered with North Monroe Baptist Church which is about an hour north and we are hoping to send teams down in November, so I will see if I can connect Ben with that effort.

do any of you have any other contacts for me? Ruth, anyone from Teen Missions organizing a long term project? - the only other organization I am working with on Katrina relief is Adventures in Missions who we partnered with in Solen, ND.
